Building confidence and wellbeing through Better Balance

On 15 March 2026, a group of passionate Strength for Life instructors gathered to take part in the first Better Balance training course for the year, marking an exciting step on their pathway toward accreditation.

Better Balance training is designed to help instructors confidently deliver safe, effective balance‑focused exercise classes that support older Australians to build stability, confidence of movement and independence. Balance training is an essential part of healthy ageing, helping people remain active and reducing the risk of falls as they get older.

Throughout the day, instructors explored the key components of balance and how ageing, health conditions and medications can affect it. This learning was combined with practical activities, discussions and demonstrations on how to assess balance and develop appropriate and engaging programs. The training blended evidence‑based theory with hands‑on learning, giving instructors new tools and ideas they can bring straight into their sessions with participants.

The training was highly interactive, with instructors practising exercises, observing techniques and sharing their experiences working with older adults. Many participants commented on the supportive learning environment and the value of practical ideas they could use immediately in their classes.

Feedback from the day highlighted how useful and engaging the training was:

  • “Great information with handouts and very useful ideas and practical sessions — a great training.”
  • “I learnt more about the importance of balance in everyday life and how to assess it. In getting older, balance, strength and coordination are vitally important.”
Supporting safer, stronger communities

Strength for Life programs support Australians aged 50+ to stay strong, active and independent through supervised strength and balance training delivered by accredited instructors.

Better Balance training equips instructors with additional skills to help participants improve stability, coordination and confidence in their everyday movements.

For the instructors who attended, the day represented more than just professional development. It was another step in building the knowledge and confidence needed to support older people in their communities to move safely, stay active and live well.

A huge thank you to the dedicated instructors who attended the training and are now progressing along the pathway to Better Balance accreditation. Your commitment to learning and improving your practice helps ensure Strength for Life participants receive safe, engaging and effective programs.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact these skills will have in Strength for Life classes across our community.
